Here's some important information about this ecological and economical solution.
The following reasoning takes into account a family of 4, each taking a 6-minute shower a day, which is the accepted daily average.
The water consumption of a conventional shower varies between 12 and 16 liters per minute, while the first ecological showerheads on the market consume between 6 and 8 liters per minute. The Hyco showerhead consumes just 4 liters per minute, 30% less than the most efficient showerheads on the market today. By using the Hyco showerhead, you save an average of 10 liters of water per minute, equivalent to 87,600 liters saved per year. As the average price of water is estimated at €4.3/m3, this corresponds to annual savings of €376.68.
Hyco's reduced water consumption also means less energy is needed to heat it.
On average, mains water temperature is 15°C and hot water for a shower should be 40°C. The temperature therefore needs to be raised by 25°C. The water mass heat required to heat 1 liter of water by one degree is 4.19 KJ or 0.001164 KWh. Heating 1 liter of water from 15 to 40°C therefore requires 0.029 KWh of energy.
Using less hot water can make some people feel colder than they would in a normal shower, and lead to the reflex of turning up the heat, especially if your bathroom temperature isn't very high. Taking into account this possible compensation, estimated at an additional 2°C, we have a wasted energy per liter of 0.0023KWh. This gives a total energy saving of 2345 KWh per year.
